Here are some highlights from the first week back after Spring Break...
This week in math we really focused on working through multistep story problems. The first step is figuring out what the problem is asking you to solve. The students used lots of different strategies to show their mathematical thinking (tally marks, pictures, number sentences, number lines, etc.) We also had our math check-in this week and it is incredible how focused all of the first graders were and how hard they all worked. I am really impressed with all of the different strategies they are applying and using to represent their work!
We are finishing up our persuasive letters and the first graders went through the entire writing process in order to complete them. First they brainstormed things they wanted to change, next they filled out a graphic organizer to help them with the structure of their letter and finally they wrote the letter independently! Hopefully they are convincing :)
When we learned about Cesar Chavez we learned that there are only 8 states that celebrate his birthday, and Oregon is not one of them. On Thursday, March 31st we celebrated his birthday by reading his biography outside in our Stephenson garden!
